Emerson DeltaV KL2101X1-BA1 CHARM I/O Card (CIOC)

The Emerson DeltaV KL2101X1-BA1 is a CHARM I/O Card (CIOC), the interface card at the heart of DeltaV Electronic Marshalling. A single CIOC connects up to 96 single-channel CHARMs (CHARacterization Modules) to a DeltaV M-series, S-series, or PK controller over a redundant Ethernet I/O network, with every channel independently defined in software as analog input, analog output, discrete input, discrete output, RTD, or thermocouple/mV — the signal type is set by the CHARM and its terminal block, not by the card, which is what lets any point be marshalled electronically instead of hard-wired. CHARMs populate up to eight CHARM baseplates (12 channels each) beneath the card's 2-wide carrier. The card takes 24 VDC input and supplies 6.3 VDC at up to 3.25 A of redundant field power to the CHARMs, operates from -40 to 70 °C (-40 to 60 °C with fiber-optic I/O ports), and is rated for Class I, Division 2 and ATEX/IECEx/UKEX Zone 2 (Ex ec IIC Gc) hazardous locations. Calibration is not required.

KL2101X1-BA1 is the original CIOC generation (assembly 12P4987, model SE6501T01); the later CIOC2, with more computing power and Achilles Level 2 communications certification, carries a separate part number. In a live system two CIOCs run as a redundant pair on a shared carrier, so this card typically serves as one half of that pair or as a spare.
