The Avocent HMX 2050 is the desk-side user station of the HMX high-performance KVM extender system, built for organizations that keep workstations securely housed in the data center while their users get a full desktop experience anywhere on the corporate TCP/IP network. It receives SSL-encrypted video, audio and USB streams from a transmitter fitted to the remote workstation — DVI-I video up to 1920 × 1200 at 60 Hz with 24-bit color, CD-quality audio, and transparent USB for keyboard, mouse and mass storage — and with Avocent's HMX Manager it scales from a simple point-to-point link into a matrix-switching deployment. The HMX line is now discontinued at Vertiv, so spare user stations like this one are the practical way to keep an existing HMX estate in service.
